Can my landlord increase my rent?

My landlord is also my boss my lease ran out in march he didn't seem to bothered about doing another one saying he's happy for me to continue staying there at the same price now 3 months later he wants to write a new contract and put the rent up it's only an extra �25 but can he do this? Also should I ask him for a pay rise I've worked for him for just over 3 years and rented from him for just over 2 years
